Injectable Fillers
The world of injectable fillers allows plastic surgeons to fill lines, augment bone, fatten out gaunt faces or thin lips, and soften deep folds.
Line filling and deep folds
The choice of material to use depends on one main question: how deep is the line? For thin and fine lines, nothing can beat Zyderm® and Zyplast®, which are made from human collagen. These are injected directly into the dermis, plumping the lines out immediately. For deeper lines, a thicker injectable like Restylane® or Captique™ lasts longer and fills smoother. This is more appropriate for lip augmentation and for the nasolabial folds (smile lines). For extremely deep nasolabial folds, Radiance (Radiesse™) works well and lasts a lot longer.
Bone augmentation
There is now a great alternative to cheek and chin implants -- Radiance is here! If injected onto the bone, Radiance can actually cause new bone to be deposited, giving you the cheekbones you never had or the gorgeous chin you've always wanted! Not sure yet? First try a temporary injectable like the ones mentioned above. If you like the results, then you can be confident in committing to long-lasting Radiance injections.
The thin, aging face
A new product, called Sculptra™, has just been approved for lipodystrophy (unsightly loss of fat). What is it? It actually causes your body to produce fuller and younger-looking tissue wherever it is injected. The downside is that it takes months for the full effects to be seen, and sometimes two or three sessions are necessary to achieve a more youthful, full face. The upside is that once it has been used to restore youthful beauty and contour, it lasts for years. It is becoming a major new force in my anti-aging weaponry, keeping people looking young and preventing the pulled-on, alien, face-lifted look so common around Beverly Hills!
